The 2026 Boston Marathon raised $57.3 million, continuing a string of record-setting totals during the past few years. The amount represents a 13.7% increase from last year’s total. According to the Boston Athletic Association, which manages the marathon, 2025’s marathon raised $50.4 million, 2024 pulled in $45.7 million and the organization raised $40.2 million in 2023.
The amount represents funds raised under the umbrella of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program and are independent of other fundraising efforts surrounding the marathon. Participants registered with the Bank of America program make up around 10% of the total marathon field. Participating organizations recruit runners who pledge to raise money for specific causes.
“Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program participants have once again set a single-year fundraising record, leading to an everlasting fundraising impact for nearly 200 organizations within our community,” Nicole Juri, director of development for the Boston Athletica Association said via a statement. “Athletes not only completed the 26.2-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston but have created a ripple effect with their fundraising efforts to support various causes near and dear to their hearts.”
The official website for the marathon (https://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/charity/) lists 199 organizations that benefitted from the fundraising. That number, as well, is up from 2025, when 176 nonprofits gained from participants’ efforts. The total raised by the official charity program since its inception in 1989 is more than $675 million.
Participants were able to present their stories to the world via the “My Marathoner” mechanism, which added a human element to the fundraising efforts.
“The 130th Boston Marathon is once more showing the power of sports and of community coming together to benefit organizations that support hundreds of thousands of our neighbors and family members,” Miceal Chamberlain, president of Massachusetts, Bank of America, said via a statement. “This spirit of giving is an inspiration to us all as we celebrate global sports in the months to come.”
Applications for participating in next year’s Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program will become available in early June. Information will be posted on the Boston Marathon website (https://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/).
