SofterWare Acquires Forms Platform Givecloud

SofterWare, the developer of DonorPerfect fundraising software, has acquired Givecloud, a long-time technology partner and online fundraising platform known for its donation forms.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Certified as a B Corp and launched in 2017, Givecloud focuses on combining technology with behavioral science to help fundraisers build donor loyalty, support global needs with multi-currency and language options, and help reduce administrative work.

“This acquisition marks an important milestone in our mission of making it easy to do good,” said Lauren Sheehan, president of SofterWare. “By bringing Givecloud into the DonorPerfect family, we’re delivering a high-performing online giving solution that helps nonprofits raise more, and our teams innovate faster. It’s a growth investment that strengthens DonorPerfect, deepens its value, and fulfills our commitment to the organizations we serve.”

Givecloud, which is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, will be in SofterWare’s Canadian division’s portfolio, Sheehan told The NonProfit Times. Josh Bloomfield, GiveCloud’s founder, will remain chief executive officer. Most of Givecloud’s employees will remain with the firm. The headcount at SofterWare will be 250, with 25 from Givecloud added to the 225 at SofterWare.

“Givecloud is about creating moments of meaning between people and the causes they care about,” said Bloomfield. “Joining with DonorPerfect allows us to bring that vision to a much larger stage. We’re building the future of donor engagement, where innovation amplifies generosity, and nonprofits are empowered to do important work at scale,” he said via a stement.

Givecloud’s advanced form capabilities will be further integrated with DonorPerfect’s donor management software. Sheehan touted Givecloud’s conversion rates. The conversion rate once someone accesses one of Givecloud’s forms is 24%, she said, a rate much greater than industry average of roughly 11%. While many of Givecloud’s 2,000 worldwide clients use DonorPerfect, those that do not use DonorPerfect will not be forced to switch, she said. DonorPerfect intergrates with several forms platforms.

Sheehan said the platform has frictionless payments via digital wallets, express checkout for mobile donors; a self-service donor portal encompassing online and offline gifts; and, suggested ask amounts based on giving previous preferences.

The deal is not funded with private equity, said Sheehan. SofterWare is an employee-owned company with the intention of remaining independent, she said. It supports 75,000 nonprofit professionals who have collectively raised more than $100 billion, she said.
