(Sponsored) Getting more donor relevance from your technology from Moore

  • The NonProfit Times
  • July 29, 2022

What is a constituent data platform (CDP)? And why do CDPs like Moore’s SimioCloud transform your donor communications? We hope to answer these with our new white paper “What And Why Is A CDP?” and also with this item.

Right now, someone somewhere in this great nation is learning about a nonprofit’s mission. This happens millions of times a day.

It’s what happens next that’s unusual.

When that person takes the advocacy alert, downloads a white paper, starts but doesn’t finish a donation page, or receives services from that nonprofit, her interactions are logged. This starts the communications ball rolling.

The organization can see her demographics, capacity, gifts to other organizations, previous browsing behavior on their site, interests, purchases, and more from her data. The analysis says she could be a valuable monthly donor and does not care for texting or phone solicitations.

From that analysis, the communications fly. A mail piece is generated that’s specific to her and the issue she was interested in just moments ago and leaves in today’s mail. Digital ads appear as she browses the web and uses social media. As she watches a streaming service, the issue at the forefront of her mind shows up, along with how she could make a difference.

When she calls to make that difference, she immediately gets emails showing her impact, a T-shirt in the mail, a personalized thank you from someone whose life she changed, and a survey about her experience (so far, so good!).

This is possible now, thanks to constituent data platforms. They don’t just deliver mail, text, ads, phone calls, etc. They deliver relevance—the exact impact you want to have on the world right now. This constituent experience attracts and retains donors.

But the talk of CDPs, tech stacks, identity resolutions, and machine learning can be daunting. We want to take you through a CDP using plain English in this white paper.

We’ll highlight what each section does and why it’s essential to create a relevant experience that turns constituents into donors and donors into passionate advocates. And we’ll talk about steps you can take to bring yourself closer to using integrated CDP like SimioCloud Connect as your platform for your audience creation and strategy.

The revamped digital membership renewal and acquisition approach added fresh art to emails and Facebook acquisition ads, along with positive messaging about all the pleasures of touring the estate, receiving special deals, and enjoying the grounds without interruption in membership.

Email messaging and Facebook acquisition ad efforts under the restyled campaign for new and renewed members is:

• Benefits focused
• Has built-in urgency (Don’t miss out on estate events)
• Contain testimonials
• Contain alternative options to membership such as donations.

Other recommendations from the presenters on reinvigorating interest in donating and association memberships:

• Automate email. Develop a “set it and forget it” email renewal series triggered at key points in the renewal cycle.
• Include copy and imagery that increases in urgency as renewal deadlines approach. Highlight members-only perks.
• At the end of a renewal series, offer a donate-now option so individuals not interested in membership consider a gift.
• Survey members annually and incorporate the feedback into membership program offerings.
• Depending on the demographics of the membership renewal audience, “renew your membership” messaging on Facebook could be viewed by some as a privacy violation.  Keep language soft and focused on an opportunity to renew.
