10 Ways to Manage Stress and Make Fundraising Fun (sponsored)

1) Hobbies: There is a good chance that your hobbies already align with your nonprofit.  Think of some ways to combine the two. For example if you love to go horseback riding  and you work for a nonprofit that sponsors horses maybe you could promote your  nonprofit at the place where you go riding. Is there a way that you can do some kind of fundraising challenge?

2) Humanities: Art, Music, Language etc. Think of ways to be creative! Can you host a  painting party to raise money for your nonprofit? Can you do an art challenge among  your donor group where your donors can send in artwork/creative writing or post it  online? Can you play inspirational or energetic music while you work at your nonprofit  to stay motivated? Can you collaborate with museums to host a fundraising event?

3) Nature: Animals and Environments. Be sure to show off your nonprofit by giving tours  or adventure experiences if your nonprofit involves nature. Can your donors sponsor an  animal or plant a tree in memory of someone? If your nonprofit does not focus on  helping animals or the environment then you can take a walk out in nature. You will feel refreshed once you return and you may have some new ideas for your nonprofit.

4) Deep Breathing: Breathe in slowly through your nose while counting to 10 and exhale  slowly out of your mouth while counting to 10. Reset your breathing so you don’t get  overwhelmed with all of the planning that you have to do for your nonprofit.

5) Exercise: Facilitate a relay race/walk or a jump-athon or dance-athon to raise money.

6) Stretch/Yoga: Stretch or do yoga before your team meetings so you are awake and  focused.

7) Quality Time w/ Friends & Family: Do something fun, nothing related to work or your  nonprofit. It’s important to take a break and refresh. Go to the movies, go bowling,  play pool, go to a concert or play. Spend quality time with your loved ones.

8) Connect w/ Your Spiritual Center: Meditate, pray at home, go to a place of worship or  watch an online service. Do whatever it is that helps you feel connected.

9) Journal: Write down how you feel good or bad. Sometimes journaling or writing  without a purpose results in some great brainstorming ideas for your nonprofit.

10) Talk: Call a friend or talk to a coworker to relieve stress and feel supported.
